Special Needs Teacher Aide

Required from 23 April 2012

 

Position is to work 1-1 for 25 hours per week with an ORRS funded student with specific needs

(hours reviewable per term).  Teacher Aide to follow an IEP & assist the student to

participate in the classroom and wider school programme.

SPECIAL NEEDS TEACHER AIDE –Fixed Term Position for 2012

           

Purpose:                 -         To assist classroom teacher to support student (ORRS High Needs) with special education needs.

Responsible to:       -         Classroom Teacher SENCO  and Principal     

Hours of Work:       -          25 hours per week (Term Two 2012)

 

Conditions of Employment:          

Support Staff Collective Agreement 2012 .  The position and the teacher aide hours generated are from ORRS funding and is attached to a specific student.                                                            The Teacher Aide hours are subject to frequent review i.e. Term by Term

Responsibilities

This position requires flexibility in response to the needs of the school. The teacher-aide will work under the guidance of the classroom teachers to provide a positive and effective learning environment. The teacher-aide will not be expected to plan work to teach but supervise teacher-planned lessons. They will be expected to promote positive relationships with the wider school community.

Key Accountabilities:

A:  Support students in class

·        Assist the student to participate fully and safely in school life.

·        Individual instruction as per Individualised Education Plans.

·        Follow the programme prepared and supervised by the teacher.

·        Ensure teacher instructions are understood by the student.

·        Assist in ordering information, note taking.

·        Monitor social behaviour.

·        Support small group learning.

·        Support students engaged in adapted programmes.

·        Keep brief records of student’s progress.

B:  Liaison

·        Participate in the IEP and other meetings

·        Maintain confidentiality

·        Work closely with classroom teacher and SENCO

·        Be flexible

C:  Administration Tasks

·        Keep brief record of daily activities

·        Prepare resources for the student

D:  Professional Development

·        Take opportunities to update skills

E:  Other

·        Assist with playground supervision of Special Needs Student as required.

·        Dirty work- changing and toileting of a student as required.

·        Supervise the student whilst eating
